Community-Led

Our Services

We Create Community-Driven Solutions for a Better Future

We design and deliver practical, community centered solutions that strengthen livelihoods, restore ecosystems, and empower refugee communities to thrive through sustainability, innovation, and education.

🥬 Permaculture Training

We provide hands-on permaculture education that equips refugees and host communities with the knowledge and practical skills to design sustainable food systems, restore degraded land, and work in harmony with nature. Through Permaculture Design Courses (PDCs), workshops, and demonstrations, participants learn soil regeneration, composting, water harvesting, organic farming, and ecological design. This training enables individuals and families to increase food security, reduce dependence on external aid, and build resilient livelihoods while protecting the environment.

👩🏽‍🌾 Women Empowerment

Women are central to community transformation. Through our women empowerment programs, we support women to become confident leaders, skilled practitioners, and custodians of indigenous knowledge. We offer training in leadership, financial literacy, reproductive health, and sustainable livelihoods, while creating safe spaces for dialogue, mentorship, and peer support. By strengthening women’s voices and economic independence, we help build stronger families and more resilient communities.

🌾 Community Farming

Our community farm in Nakivale Refugee Settlement serves as a living learning center where refugees from diverse backgrounds come together to practice sustainable agriculture. The farm demonstrates permaculture techniques such as polycultures, agroforestry, composting, and water-efficient irrigation. Beyond food production, the farm fosters collaboration, knowledge exchange, and social cohesion, while improving nutrition and household food security.

🌍 Climate Change Action

FOLONA works on the frontlines of climate change, supporting communities to adapt to unpredictable weather, droughts, and land degradation. We promote climate-smart agriculture, tree planting, water harvesting, and ecosystem restoration. Through education and practical action, communities gain the skills to reduce environmental damage, strengthen resilience, and become active stewards of their natural resources.
